Visit from Prof. Waldemar Kremser

Robin Engelbach Benjamin Grossmann-Hensel

End of last week, we had the great pleasure of welcoming Prof. Waldemar Kremser from the JKU - Institut für Strategisches Management at the Johannes Kepler Universität Linz to the University of Zurich.

He opened his visit with a thought-provoking presentation titled “The End of Academia ? ” In his talk, Waldemar shared key lessons from his research while inviting us to reflect on the future of universities in a world where AI substitutes entry-level jobs and enables highly individualized learning experiences. The discussion challenged us to rethink what we teach, how we teach, and what role academia should play going forward.

Building on these reflections, our joint working session focused on broader questions around AI in research and teaching: How can AI be meaningfully integrated into courses on academic writing? What constitutes responsible and effective use of AI tools in our own scholarly work? And how can universities develop shared principles that guide the use of AI while preserving academic integrity and rigor?

The two days of Waldemar's visit were marked by an inspiring exchange of ideas, critical reflection, and the pleasure of engaging in such close and collegial collaboration.

Thank you, Waldemar, for the intellectually stimulating and genuinely enjoyable time — we very much hope to continue the conversation soon!
