Summer Magic Mountain 2025

Robin Engelbach Benjamin Grossmann-Hensel

Over the past week, we had the pleasure of combining two special events into one unforgettable experience: the 19th Organization Studies Summer Workshop (OSSW) and our Summer Magic Mountain strategy offsite, held in the stunning setting of Chania, Crete.

This year’s OSSW, co-organized by David Seidl and Shenghui Ma, brought together (almost) the entire SAP community. With thought-provoking keynotes, insightful paper presentations, and rich roundtable discussions led by some of the field’s leading voices, the workshop created space to reflect on the past, better understand the present, and spark ideas for the future of strategizing and organizing as practice.

What made the experience truly special was the presence of the many extended Chair family members — including Violetta Splitter, Katharina Dittrich, Shenghui Ma, Martha Eugenia Reyes-Sarmiento, Yalan Yang, Jing You, and Christian Bruck.

After the conference, and also joined by some of our personal family members, we stayed on for a few more days for our Magic Mountain offsite. Amid the warm Cretan breeze and spectacular skies, we blended research conversations, strategic discussions, and creative working sessions with shared meals, visits to the beach and Chania’s old town, and a joyful birthday celebration.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made the past days not only intellectually inspiring but also personally enriching. From big ideas to beach walks, it was a wonderful time of community, connection, and collaboration.

Already looking forward to our Winter Magic Mountain!
