Distinguished Scholar Seminar
This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Professor Joep Cornelissen (Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University) for our Distinguished Scholar seminar on Developing Theory.
Day 1: We began by unpacking what theory is and what makes a strong theoretical contribution. Through guided discussions and exercises on framing and positioning, participants explored how to identify meaningful research gaps and craft compelling arguments.
Day 2: We turned to blending and counterfactual reasoning, learning how to creatively combine theoretical lenses and question established assumptions. These sessions provided powerful tools for sharpening the conceptual foundations of our own work.
Day 3: The seminar concluded with a deep dive into construct clarity, defining and refining key concepts and examining their relationships within broader theoretical frameworks.
Across all three days, the seminar offered a rich mix of learning, application, presenting, and feedback in a collaborative atmosphere. A joint dinner and a few sunny autumn moments overlooking Zurich rounded off this great seminar.
