Personnel Management in Entrepreneurial Firms

1. Topics

Identifying, recruiting and retaining the “right” employees are among the most important task in the formative stages of a new business. At the same time these tasks are also among the most challenging. While the importance of the human capital endowment for the performance of a young firm is undisputed, the focus in the academic entrepreneurship literature has traditionally been on the human capital of the founders. This seminar provides an overview over recent academic literature that deals with the effects of the human capital of both founders and employees on new ventures’ performance. Who founds successful start-ups? Whom do young firms employ? And how does this affect future start-up performance as well as the careers of founders and employees?
