Business Analytics & Operations

How can we improve decision making in a complex and uncertain world?

That is the question driving our research. At Business Analytics & Operations at the University of Zurich, we develop quantitative models and analytical frameworks to improve decision making in business and society. From optimizing airline networks and hospital capacities to designing fair algorithms and sustainable supply chains - we turn data, uncertainty, and human behavior into actionable insights. Our methods draw on stochastic modeling, optimization, simulation, and game theory - rigorously developed and applied to real-world problems.

Our group brings together four chairs dedicated to advancing smarter, fairer, and more sustainable operations: Mathematics for Business and Economics (Prof. Dr. Christiane Barz), Services & Operations Management (Prof. Dr. Helmut M. Dietl, Asst. Prof. Dr. Uta Mohring), Quantitative Business Administration (Prof. Dr. Oleg Prokopyev), and Sustainable Operations Management (Prof. Dr. Tarkan Tan). Together, we combine analytical depth with practical relevance.

Globally connected in research, practice-oriented in teaching, and focused on real impact - explore our chairs, projects, and partnerships, and join us in shaping the future of data-driven operations.
