Jason Blunier, a student research assistant at the chair of Prof. Backes-Gellner, is one of the winners of the «UZH-2017 Fall Semester Prize». Congratulations! The prize is awarded for his bachelor thesis on «Spillover Effects of Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS) on the Labor Market: An Econometric Analysis of a Policy Reform in Switzerland». In his study, Blunier investigates the effect of the establishment of UAS on the employment stability of low-skilled workers at the firm level. He finds that workers with higher education and low-skilled workers are complements. Therefore, the establishment of the UAS had on average positive effects on the employment stability of low-skilled workers within a firm. This shows that investments in education do not simply favor those participating in the program but leads to a rising boat for the entire workforce.
