File Server

Connect to the file server from at home

If you want to connect to your shares on the file server 'python.business.uzh.ch' please proceed as follows.

Windows users

  1. Connect using UZH VPN if your current location is outside the UZH network, ie at home.
  2. Open up the Windows Explorer (press the "Windows" key and the "e" key)
  3. In Windows' Explorer find the 'Map network drive' button and click it
  4. Choose a drive letter
  5. define the Folder: \\python.business.uzh.ch\name_of_folder. name_of_folder represents the share you want to connect to and can be one of:
    • "public" for the public share
    • "your UZH shortname" for your private home
    • "team_something" for your team share. The names of the team shares you can lookup in Windows Explorer->This PC on your business computer or, if in any doubt, ask us
  6. Click the 'Finish' button
  7. If you are asked username & password, which will be the case on private computers, please type as username "business\shortname" and as password the password you usually use to access your computer in the office.

Mac OS X users

  1. Connect using UZH VPN if you are outside the UZH network (ie. at home)
  2. Open the 'Finder' Application
  3. Click on 'Go' in the Finder's menu. From the pull down menu choose 'Connect to Server...'
  4. Server Address: smb://python.business.uzh.ch/name_of_share, while 'name_of_share' can be one of:
    • "public" for the public share
    • "your UZH shortname" for your private home
    • "team_something" for your team share. The names of the team shares you can lookup in Windows Explorer on your business computer or, if in any doubt, ask us
  5. Press the + button to add the new share to the list. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for all shares you want to connect to and that should remain in the list. When done, press the 'Connect' button.
  6. You will be asked your credentials. As a username type "business\shortname" with the password to the \business domain. If in any doubt, please contact us
  7. Hit again the 'Connect' button.
