Prof. Thomas Rauter, PhD
Biography
Thomas Rauter is a Full Professor of Accounting at the University of Zurich. He was previously on the faculty at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business as an Associate and Assistant Professor. His research focuses on corporate transparency and regulation, with an emphasis on emerging and international markets, as well as ESG. He is also a Research Fellow at the TRR 266 Accounting for Transparency.
Thomas has extensive research experience in emerging economies and frequently conducts large-scale global surveys and field experiments with firms, employees, and consumers. His research has been published in various top academic journals, such as the Journal of Accounting and Economics, the Journal of Accounting Research, The Accounting Review, the American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, and the AEA Papers and Proceedings.
He holds a PhD from WU Vienna, an MSc in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics, and a BSc in Business Economics from the University of Mannheim. Prior to his doctoral studies, he worked in the asset and insurance solutions groups at Morgan Stanley and in the investment banking division at Citi.
Outside of academia, Thomas enjoys playing with his two young daughters, cooking with his wife, playing tennis, and skiing.
